Position Highlights:

As a Transportation Planner at Stewart, you will be part of a growing Planning Discipline that works on many interesting and complex projects all across the state of North Carolina. You will be challenged with a diverse portfolio of projects varying from bridge replacements and intersection improvements to interchange reconfigurations and lengthy widening projects. You will be exposed to Stewart's industry leading effort of bringing ADA compliance documentation to municipalities. Because of the diverse portfolio, you will gain a broad spectrum of experience in the various types of planning documentation. You will be encouraged to think creatively and make innovative suggestions on the projects you are involved in. This position requires someone who is energetic, self-directed, success focused, and ready help us become the premier Transportation Planning firm in the state.

Position Responsibilities:

In this position, you will be working with a collaborative team of engineers and planners to deliver projects efficiently and effectively. Stewart is unique in the way our planners and designers work as a team throughout the project development process. One example of this is our feasibility study efforts that require planners and engineers to work hand-in-hand to deliver for our clients. You will work with individuals who are passionate about their craft and being part of delivering environmentally sensitive transportation projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning or related field
  • Basic knowledge of GIS software
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • 0 to 4 years of experience in transportation planning preferred
  • Experience working with NCDOT and NEPA projects preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to work in a professional, climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels and exposure to lots of light, both natural and artificial. Workstations are in an open space layout with frequent collaboration and interactions from co-workers throughout the day. Within the office you are willing and able to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Additional requirements include providing on-site technical assistance by occasionally accessing client or construction sites with varying terrain. You may occasionally traverse difficult terrain for over one mile.

Our planning and engineering services include NEPA planning, community studies, public involvement, roadway and structure design, traffic management and utility coordination. We have a diverse portfolio of projects that include interchange reconfigurations, new location roadways, multi-lane widening, synchronized streets, intersection improvements, pedestrian bridge design and highway bridge and culvert design and replacement.
