In this role, the Motor and Drives Resident Expert provides technical onsite and offsite support and expertise in response to a variety of site work requests, telephone calls and emails regarding installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and programming questions and to technical problems encountered by users of ABB Medium Voltage drives in Motion Service in Cameron, LA. We will provide relocation assistance. This in turn results in different actions on the part of the individual depending on the specific circumstances of each case. Execution is performed in a timely manner.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for more complex problems. Act as the technical liaison with other departments to address and resolve the more complex inquiries and problems.
  • Investigate problems and independently initiate effective measures for their solution. Coordinate activities with related groups to most efficiently achieve objectives to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Collaborate with Local and Global support to perform troubleshooting and repair work on Medium Voltage drive products under warranty at customer sites throughout covered countries
  • Execute actions within the framework of product warranty policies, ensuring customer satisfaction while achieving cost control objectives
  • Execute policy to support out of warranty drive products and system components
  • Perform onsite work which includes commissioning and troubleshooting at customer installations. Engineer will be assigned to a job site as a resident engineer
  • Enter each reportable case as applicable in the SAP customer service module and other service tools
  • Maintain communication with other departments to stay abreast of product release and up dates
  • Maintain technical competence in troubleshooting and repair of Medium Voltage Drives
  • Conduct internal and external training events
  • Participate proactively in contributing feedback to supportline regarding product quality issues in an effort to reduce warranty costs
  • Take ownership of the cases he is dealing with. Self thinking and act independently without directing from his supervisor
  • Ensure that proper policies and procedures are followed in accordance with company management system directives and ESD(ElectroStatic Discharge) requirements
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping standards
Your background

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical program and 8 years of experience in installing, testing, repairing or troubleshooting AC/DC drive systems, motors and their associated controls.
  • Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, technical manuals, and technical specifications
  • Preferred Requirements: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, experience with MV Drives, knowledge of power electronics, motors, transformers, switch gears, and computer network communication protocol and theory of operation
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
